We have now stopped live testing of directly marketed (Retail) EAs and robots because we have completed a review of over 100 of these automated systems. Not so much bad news in itself, however our findings on today's EA Robot industry were rather conclusive.
Please read our Info page for more information on the difference between Retail EA Robots and those provided on a performance basis, including the type of services we now use to review these available signal providers at zero cost. Alternatively jump straight to our real time live trading results page to see the current providers we are running through live trading using one of these free services.
The key findings in the Retail EA and Signal Provider market were not actually a surprise. We discovered that the industry has grown exponentially over the last couple of years with the majority of products built around the following business model:
| 1 |
Create a new EA, preferably scalping with high win% which looks good to potential customers |
| 2 |
Backtest and optimise results, publish as 'live' results |
| 3 |
Promote through aggressive online marketing techniques (Clickbank/Plimus affiliates, basic product + upsells) |
| 4 |
Take payment upfront or on monthly basis |
| 5 |
Once you have customer details, promote other EAs to them |
Some key points to highlight on this model.
Firstly, where do they make most of their money? Answer is the final step promoting other products. If you have ever purchased an EA before you will understand this already. You buy the most amazing profit making, sure win thing, then mysteriously start receiving recommendations for other systems from the author of the product you have just bought.
Clickbank and Plimus affiliates typically receive 40-50% commission from every sale or monthly subscription. Unfortunately the companies producing these EA systems are ClickBank and Plimus affiliates themselves to increase their revenue streams.
In fact we now believe this is a fundamental reason that has lead to a lot of EAs out there being solely produced and sold to capture your details as an active Forex EA buyer. This is because majority of EAs are produced and distributed by professional marketeers. This can be seen by some very clear similarities in marketing approach and sales material between all the systems.
Whether these EA systems succeed or fail is important for you the buyer but not to these sellers, in fact if the EA fails they will earn more money when you buy the next one. Nearly all of the EAs tested reached a point of failure where they eventually started losing money or in many cases hit an extremely large drawdown. Current trend observed is that most EAs available are based on scalping strategies which minimises the chances of a complete account meltdown in the first 3 months - long enough to take you beyond your Clickbank refund period!
In Conclusion
A clear message here to avoid the retail EA market, it will not generate long term profits and is a very expensive way to find a good system amongst all the junk that has saturated the industry from the online marketeers.
It is not all bad news though.
